Stacey Dash Exits Single Ladies

It's official. Stacey Dash is no longer a single lady. The actress confirmed what fans suspected weeks ago. In a statement to Global Grind Dash stated:

Taraji P. Henson: Person Of Interest

This fall there's a new crime drama in town.  CBS' Person Of Interest will premiere starring two talented leads: Oscar nominated Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, Baby Boy) and Jim Caviezel (The Counte Of Monte Cristo, Angel).  If you thought we'd seen it all in crime shows, J.J. Abrams is putting yet another spin on the crime suspense drama this time.  He's adding new technology to intrigue this go round.  Looking forward to seeing them do what CSI, NCIS and all the other acronym-named shows haven't done already.

It will be nice to see Taraji in action every week.  At the recent comic con, she admitted that her character won't always know who she's chasing.  This is going to be...interesting.

Movie Review: Colombiana

Zoe Saldana, Colombiana
Zoe Saldana's Colombiana fought its way to the #2 spot at the box office this weekend.  Due to hurricane Irene storming her way up the east coast, many were without power and unable to catch it.  Fortunately, I was stocked up on bottled water and emergency rations and was able to get to theaters.  I'll admit, I was hesitant about seeing this film.  A whole lot of fighting and blowing up stuff just doesn't give me the thrill it used to back in the day.  Having said that, Colombiana is better than most and worth watching.

First Look: Tyler Perry's For Better Or Worse (Video)

Tyler Perry's For Better Or Worse
Last night Tyler Perry released video from his new TBS sitcom, For Better Or Worse starring Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White. Perry must be the hardest (and fastest) working man in television. This is his third sitcom to air on TBS. And while you'll remember Marcus (White) and Angela (Smith) from the Why Did I Get Married series, this time around it appears to be more drama than comedy.

Zoe Saldana Takes Glamour Behind The Camera + Video

Zoe Saldana is on a mission.  Known for her sense of fashion, it's no surprise that Saldana covers the September issue of Ebony magazine and has a spread in GQ.  She's also got a hot new film opening this Friday, Colombiana.  Saldana stars as a woman who is determined to avenge the murder of her parent's.  From the trailer it appears that Saldana has nabbed the role of  a confident, sexy, and most importantly, "able to handle herself" woman that we usually only see played by Angelina Jolie.

Tia Mowry & Baby Cree Grace US Weekly

Tia Mowry Hardrict is all smiles for her son's debut in US Weekly. Cree Taylor Hardrict appears to be a natural in front of the camera and he's definitely a cutie. Inside the issue Tia dishes on returning to work as a new mom and sister Tamera's auntie duties. The issue hits stands this Friday.  Read on for video.

The Help vs. Basketball Wives

The Help is cleaning up at the box office.   This week the much talked about film finally made it's way to the number one spot.  When I read the book, I couldn't put it down. So I was eager to see the film adaptation. Having actually read the book, I had some "issues" with some of the key points that were missing-especially the ending. Which is why I understand the comments from some about seeing us on film facing the same situations.

However, what I find most interesting when I hear the negative comments explaining why someone will not see "The Help" or is blasting those who have, is that they completely overlook the enduring and lasting bonds of friendship and sisterhood amongst the maids.  I have to wonder, have we grown so accustomed to fist fights, flying cocktails, and the back-stabbing depicted in popular media today, that we don't immediately recognize the jewel of sisterhood when we see it?

The Akils, Debra Martin Chase and "Sparkle" A Perfect Combination

Lonette McKee, Irene Cara & Dwan Smith
Sister and the Sisters

According to the Remake Buzz in Jet Magazine's August issue,  Uber-Producers Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and  Debra Martin Chase will remake the cult classic, "Sparkle".

This is the movie that originally showcased some Hollywood mainstays like: Irene Cara, Lonette McKee (the original Sister), Dorian Harewood, Phillip Michael Thomas, Miami Vice's "Tubbs"and the renown, Mary Alice ( A Different World, Down In The Delta).

Also according to Jet, it is rumored that the dynamic trio, Akil/Chase is looking at Paula Patton to play the lead role.  Now before you scratch your head or etch your face with concern, remember, Patton (Just Wright, Jumping The Broom) was good and believable in the musical fantasy film, Idlewild.  No matter who the team chooses, we're sure the updated version of this 1976 screen and soundtrack phenom will be a bonafide hit.  And GirlTD is looking forward to it!

In the meantime enjoy some old favorites courtesy of Mr. Curtis Mayfield.....

And we couldn't leave you without this Gem.....

"The Help" The Movie That Doesn't Give The Story A Chance...

Everyone deserves to tell their side of their story.

Viola Davis, Cicely Tyson, Aunjanue Ellis & Octavia Spencer
Ladies of The Help

And the ladies shown above command outstanding performances that humanize the World Community's most resilient women, recanting painful pasts.

However, I have a question.  Why does Hollywood continue to overshadow truth with an incessant need for inaccurate Super-heroism?

Many have criticised The Help as being damaging, left the theater frustrated, and/or experienced an incomplete story. I don't want to but I have to agree with the latter.

I get it, the Civil Rights South, particularly Mississippi stories have been read, viewed and played ad-nauseam. It is a painful time that one is rarely fond of re-visiting. However had this Screenwriter/Director been fixated on the truth, the diamond of this story, perhaps, just perhaps the criticism may have fared differently.

Hawthorne Recap!

This week's episode of Hawthorne was a classic case of should I stay or should I go. At the opening, Christina (Jada Pinkett Smith) is rushing to leave the house. Her daughter Camille is trying to help her find a sweater and instead finds her "gat". Yes, the gun she's been hiding since she was attacked. Once she questions her mom about it, Christina brushes her off, stating they're going to be late and continues to ask her daughter for help, this time leaving her journal with entries about her marriage in plain view. I knew that nosey girl was going to read it-that's what kids do.

GirlTD visits Saberland! #BlogHer11

BlogHer11 was the place to be this past weekend.  While GirlTD didn't get to catch a glance of The San Diego Sabers hard at work after the Lockout; GirlTD did manage to take in some Saber favorite sites to share with you.

GirlTD imagines this is the bridge Melanie, Tasha and Kelly might take from La Jolla to downtown San Diego.  It provides breathtaking views that soothe you before entering one of the prettiest cities in the world.

Remember when Chad Ochocino took Melanie out for a date?  How about when Derwin chased Janay down the street yelling, "...There's Ochocinco, what school did he go to?"  And Janay responded, "I don't know, we lost touch after Prom!"  Chances are they were all in this area of San Diego choc full with fabulous hotspots like "Mercy", chic restaurants and bars like the "Bamboo Gardens" and shopping.

Top of Gas Lamp Quarter San Diego
Finally, want to get away and relax with a glass of champagne or a fine wine?  You might want to get stuck in San Diego's version of a parking lot.

Marina Dock San Diego

Imagine yourself "walking the plank" off of one of these beauties.  I'm sure the gang has a great time with their friends, kicking back, relaxing after a hard day on the field or a challenging day, keeping it all together! Go Sabers!

Single Ladies Finale should have been called Boomerang! The Re-cap

My heart is still thumping!

-Val rethinks her decision to drop Jerry only to see him during a night out with the girls.  After being convinced by the girls, Omar and a blog video from her employee branding her a RHM--Relationship Hot Mess, Val confesses to Jerry that she was wrong.  She asks Jerry for another chance, hoping she'll be able to overcome his mandate that he would never marry again!  Jerry, says "I adore You" in good old-fashioned Prince style, only to reject her bid for them to try---Boomerang!

-Keisha leads the girls to a night out at the Casino.  Malcolm should have joined them but is MIA.  Keisha leaves an early winning streak, only to get home to find the mansion crawling with FBI agents.  This group is led by her former indecent proposer--Rick Fox aka Winston Law!  He proceeds to show pictures of Malcolm with ex-wife, allegedly fleeing the country with her and reveals to Keisha that Malcolm was the one who filed for divorced from Ashlee because of infidelity, not the other way around!--Boomerang #2

April, Val & Keisha

-April finally admits to Reed that he may be her type after he returns with a proposition for her to join him on his new record label as a Jr. A&R rep.  Good thing because April no longer has a job.  She just quit!  She tells Reed that she'll sleep on it.  It is not necessarily the direction she wants to go in.  Her slightly milder Boomerang comes in the form of she and Darryl (her soon to be ex) firing their lawyers only to work out the divorce amicably!

The kicker of the night....Val ends up having dinner with Quinn.  After pouring her heart out, they drink too much champagne and end up in bed!  Quinn gets up and proposes to Val.  His proposal is interrupted by a knock on the door.  Yeah, it's Jerry and he gets on his knees to plead for Val to marry him, using her middle name and all.  Val is ecstatic for only a fleeting moment.  Quinn, half-naked, walks out with ring in hand asking who is at the door.  Jerry sees Quinn and closes the ring box.  We're all left heartbroken!  What an amazing episode!  Can't wait until next season!  MWO!  Mouth Wide Open!

Will Jerry forgive Val and re-open the box?  Is Jerry in a position to forgive Val? Remember he said Good-bye last.  Will Keisha turn on Malcolm and help the feds?  Next season is sure to rock!

Love It or Hate It....Shaunie O'Neal is Ballin' with Basketball Wives! Season Finale Recap

Shaunie ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal

Many may be afraid to admit it but somebody's watching.  BBW garners VH1's highest rating since 2009!  And coupled with the mega-hit Single Ladies, VH1 is raking in more than two million viewers on Monday nights and those numbers are a huge deal that sponsors are taking note of.

The season doesn't end without its share of drama and fight.

-Jen refuses to meet w/Royce and both declare a line in the sand about the fact that they are not friends
(surprise)

-Evelyn spots her fiancee, Chad Ochocinco eating with a "female friend", blows a gasket which leads to make-up sex.  However, in between, Chad refuses to adhere to Ev's rules that opposite sex associates are out of the question.  In fact, Chad delivers the line of the night.  "Are you suppossed to know her or are you supposed to know me?"  (We're not buying it but it is a strong argument)

-Royce reads tweets that Jen (allegedly) sent and is the cause of Royce's branding Jen a hypocrite

-Shaunie meets with and lands a shoe deal with Chinese Laundry

-Jen plans and executes a divorce party from Eric which features, hot guys, hot short dresses and stillettos and a gruesome wedding cake with a replica of the former bride holding a bouquet of her ex-husband's head, outfitted with large lips and a cyst on the forehead.  The body is headless at the bottom of the cake, clad in the ex's former professional basketball uniform; a ball in place of his "private parts".  Jen takes pleasure in wielding through the cake with a butcher knife.  She then breaks open a replica pinata filled with condoms, candy and dollars!  Whew!

The clincher:  Jen and her ex get together.  They have a heated argument which results in Jen throwing a drink.  Surprised?  The real surprise is that the ex returns to the table warning her to "be careful".  He forcefully throws a drink in her face!  Boo to Eric.  Sure she threw a drink at him first that landed on his shirt but to come back to the table and throw a drink directly in her face narrowly missing her face with the glass--Not Cool!  She shouldn't have thrown a drink at him and he should have walked away!  I guess he does still care, huh?  Or he can't stand a taste of his own medicine?

We didn't see much of Royce, Tammy & Susie during this episode, but we'll get plenty of action from them and Meeka when the Reunion Show, hosted by John Salley airs 8/15/11 check local listings for times.

In the meantime, we'll have Basketball Wives--Los Angeles to look forward to starting 8/29/11.  This first season West Coast version starts off with a fight--go figure!
