Once again Thursday nights are the top-reigning nights across major networks. Three of our favorite actresses are holding it down in prime-time. On three different shows, you can find sistas stopping crime, calling shots, and uncovering truths, and they make it look good.
First up, there's scandal, crisis, and a designer wardrobe. No, it's not another reality TV show. It's Scandal, the new drama on ABC, starring Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, a shot-calling crisis management specialist. She's a woman with power, a secret of her own, and style! The backdrop is Washington D.C. and Georgetown, an intriguing mix of power and sophisticated chic. While it's scripted fiction, there is a real life muse. Super producer Shonda Rhimes, was inspired by real life fixer, Judy Smith. After last week's premier episode, we'll definitely keep tuning in. Scandal airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
Missing is another new drama starring Ashley Judd as Rebecca, a former CIA agent trying to find her son. If you love international thrillers, spies and speed boat chases this is the show for you. I love watching Judd kick butt and threaten everyone from snipers to intelligence in multiple languages, no less. But this week Rebecca gets an unexpected surprise. This time it's from her mundane cover as a florist and mom. After breaking up with her husband, Mary, Rebecca's best friend and floral sidekick, decides to fly to Rome. I love a woman who travels!
Mary shows up wearing curls, scarf, earrings and heels! She knows how to work it. Once she uncovers Rebecca's former life, she finds herself in a hostage situation. She doesn't have the Tae-bo moves of Rebecca but she manages to shove the gun-toting villain, and jump off of the boat. Turns out, she can swim, because by the end of the show she's headed back to the states, curls in place, makeup done, and travel ready. While Ellis' role is considered a recurring role, we're hoping she becomes a regular and more than a sidekick.
Person Of Interest debuted last fall and just keeps getting hotter. Taraji P. Henson is holding her own as Detective Carter. These last few episodes we're seeing a softer side of this top cop-meaning she's working a flip, rocking rose lipstick and sensible heels (we wouldn't buy her chasing bad guys in stilettos). She's a single mother, a stand up cop and a do-right woman, but don't get it twisted, she'll kidnap a group of mob bosses in a minute. Don't play! With each episode, the plot of this show just keeps getting thicker. And we're all in. Person Of Interest airs Thursday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
