Seems like The Game isn't announcing the only shake-ups for the 2012-13 season. On the heels of only 13 episodes (regular season 22) ordered for
Private Practice, Kate Walsh announced her departure from the show at the conclusion of her contracted 13 episode season on the
Grey's Anatomy spinoff. Her announcement was made on "Bethenny" the new talk show from the former Real Housewives of New York breakout star.

According to
Yiddio, Shonda Rhimes maintains that the expiration of Kate Walsh's contract (Dr. Addison Montgomery) and the truncated season order, is entirely coincidental.
In an interview with
TV Guide, Rhimes (creator of Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal and cancelled Off The Map) explains that recent decisions including the departure of Tim Daly's character Pete was due to budgetary issues. "There's a lot of budgetary issues on that show," explains Rhimes. "We need to make sure the show is viable and that we can produce it. I feel as though Tim's character had a wonderful journey." Rhimes adds that she isn't yet ready to declare ABC's initial order of 13 episodes for the 2012-2013 season as
Private's last stand. "I have been told that I'm not allowed to think of us only doing 13 episodes."
Tim Daly tweeted the following about his departure: Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda informed my agent today that Pete wont be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.
With the departure of three of the major characters of this ensemble--Dr. Naomi Bennett played by fan favorite Audra McDonald departed a season ago--one has to wonder if there is a plan for this show to return after the 13 episodes run, at all. Compelling, heart thrilling and wrenching episodes had been reduced to prime-time Soap Opera like story lines. It was the end of Season 5 that fans started to feel like the show was getting back on concrete ground. Hearing about budgetary problems followed by abrupt changes give us cause to second the creator's emotion: the show has to be viable again, regardless of who's journey with show continues or ends.
Can the show survive without Addison? Should it?
